DJ Akademiks Praises Cardi B’s Verse On Young Thug’s “UY Scuti” During Livestream Call

Words by Jessica Tinao

Young Thug’s newly released album UY Scuti is making waves with its stacked lineup of guest features, including Future, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Sexyy Red, Lil Baby, YFN Lucci, and Cardi B. One track in particular, “On The News” featuring Cardi, has been generating buzz—earning high praise from DJ Akademiks.

During a recent livestream, Akademiks expressed his admiration for Cardi’s performance and even called her directly to deliver the compliment. “Cardi, I hate to do this to you, it’s Ak,” he said in a clip shared by @joebuddenclips on X. “This is how you rap. I don’t know why you’re going that crazy. I’m listening to Thug’s album and I heard your verse and I said, ‘this is how I like you to rap.’ You carried that n***a lowkey.”

Cardi responded on the call by acknowledging their often public disagreements, but also highlighted the mutual respect they share. “Because we be having disagreements,” she admitted. “But I’ve got to see it both ways.”

Akademiks also congratulated the Bronx rapper on her latest project, Am I The Drama?, which dropped last week. The album, however, has stirred controversy due to Cardi’s direct shots at fellow rappers including BIA and JT. The latter quickly fired back on social media, launching a string of fiery tweets targeting Cardi’s career and personal life.

Despite the backlash, Cardi has remained steadfast, telling Hollywood Unlocked that she stands by her lyrics. “They felt like I was an easy target,” she said. “I’m not a target and I’m not easy neither. I let them think that they had it, but just remember who started with who.”
